Poon Lim was a Chinese sailor who survived 133 days adrift at sea in the Atlantic Ocean in 1942 during World War II. He was a steward on board the British merchant ship SS Benlomond when it was torpedoed by a German U-boat. After the ship sank, Poon Lim managed to find a wooden raft and some supplies, and he used his resourcefulness and determination to survive on his own until he was rescued by Brazilian fishermen. He was the longest-surviving shipwrecked person on a life raft in recorded history. Poon Lim's incredible story of survival has been documented in books and films, making him a celebrated figure in maritime history.
